Texas Tradition Contemporary Now at Turner House

Bill Reaves at Turner House

Houston Gallery owner Bill Reaves is becoming a figure on the art scene in Dallas. Not only is this Reaves second exhibit at the historic Turner House in Oak Cliff, but the centerpiece in the new Alexander Hogue exhibit at the Dallas Museum of Art is on loan from none other than Bill Reaves. That’s not a fact that escaped many who turned out last night for a talk at Turner House on contemporary artists in Texas.

Presented by the Oak Cliff Society of Fine Arts, the works on display range from the soft pastel landscapes of Jeri Salter to the vibrant and iconic works of Keith Davis (you could probably guess he’s from Austin) and 14 other artists from around the state. Reaves’ talks are entertaining, and as expected the staff had to find extra chairs to accommodate the crowd. Several traveled from the Bayou City to hear the talk (and take in the Hogue exhibit).
