A Few Furniture Finds

Here are some recent sightings of some fabulous furniture finds that may be still available. First up is this mahogany game table from the first quarter of the 19th century with impressive floral carving and what appears to be old if not original casters and finish. It was hard not to bring this one home. If you’re not familiar with this design or table, the top swivels and folds out to make a square. Sometimes that provides a nice compartment to hide things. They were often displayed with the top open and leaning against a wall with a lamp or bowl. Little Antique Mall, 3128 US-101, Lincoln City, OR.

Next is this handsome secretary looked to be in very good condition without excessive chips or nics. Looked like it had the drawer key too. Great for displaying books or collections. Estimated at $500 to $700, this brought $375 at O’Gallerie Auction in Portland on July 15.

In the center below are two attractive machine-made chairs probably from the last quarter of the 19th century. Despite their great form and decent condition, they were headed for the dumpster and now cleaned, serve as a comfy cushion for cats.

Finally, a GE Monitor Top refrigerator circa 1927-1938. The first affordable commercial refrigerator to be produced, sometimes these still work even after almost a century of service. Of course, the freezer is tiny (for making an ice cube or two I guess) coming in at more than 200 lbs, if you survive the move, you’ll need a cold drink. ReBuilding Center 3625 N Mississippi Ave, Portland Oregon.
